The Chatterbox Club - Finding Your Podcasting Voice with Expert Nic Redman

How do you use your speaking voice in the best possible way to engage your listener?

That’s what everyone hoped to find out at The Chatterbox Club this month. We welcomed a special guest — Vocal Coach Nic Redman — into the studio to give tips on how to master your voice so that you can deliver your podcast stories with gusto!

Why did I invite Nick to Host The Chatterbox Club?

Having someone else host Chatterbox Club was a new experience for me.

Regular attendees will know that it’s usually me or technical expert Joel Lowson who hosts the Chatterbox Club. So why did we hand the reigns over to Nic for the day?

Well, as a podcast trainer, people often ask me…

😳 How to prepare your podcasting voice
🤔 How to speak so that people will listen
🤗 How to connect better with your audience

So who better than the popular podcast and voice coaching expert Nic Redman to join us as a guest speaker for this training and networking session — this is a topic she teaches people all the time.

What Podcast Voice Tips Did We Learn at This Chatterbox Club?

In this Chatterbox Club event — which included practical confidence-building exercises — Nic showed us how enhancing your speaking voice is crucial for engaging your listener, sharing your story and growing your podcast.

We learned how to focus on how you want to affect the listener and what information you want to gift them rather than scrutinising every vocal imperfection you have.

I was lucky to come away with wonderful practical tips to improve my microphone performance. I left the session feeling entertained, inspired and ready to be my best on the microphone every time I hit record.

Vocal Warm-up Exercises

Podcasters like me know that working with a microphone can be distracting. You hear your voice droning through the headphones, and it can cause you to trip over your words - and all kinds of things start happening to your breath!

Nic introduced us to warm-up exercises to ensure your voice is expressive, clear and engaging. So as you can imagine, we had lots of fun today at Flamingo Heights Podcast Studio 😍

The session is best described by one of our attendees, Kathryn Wharton ⭐️, Qrious, who said:

“It was a brilliant, interactive session which covered the importance of warming up, hydration and breath work to deliver a great piece of spoken word.”

The Chatterbox Club is hosted at Flamingo Heights Podcast Studio in the heart of Newcastle Upon Tyne every month. We cover a range of topics to help you start, launch, and grow your podcast.
