Wheelchair Access at Flamingo Heights Podcast Studio

Recently we’ve welcomed two guests in the studio in wheelchairs. One was a planned visit, and the other was a little unexpected.

Both times, wheelchair access was an issue. Not because the studio isn’t accessible by wheelchairs — it is — but because both guests tried entering via the front of the building, which is far less accessible than the side. I’ve realised that for future guests in wheelchairs, we need to be clearer about the access and discourage access via the front door if possible.

So, with this in mind, to help future guests in wheelchairs considering a visit to the studio, I’ve created a report outlining access to Flamingo Heights Studio, including the two access points, doorways, and toilet facilities.

Studio Accessibility Report

What I’m trying to get across — and hopefully, what this report clearly shows — is that the side/back entrance is best as it has fewer door obstacles. In this report, I’ve documented the access routes to the podcast studio, the relevant door widths, door lip heights, and so on.

I realise I’m not an expert in accessibility. So rather than assume to know what’s best, I’ve simply recorded what I observed. And anyone reading it can make their own judgement, Hopefully, the report will serve future guests who understand their access requirements better than anyone else.
